You can add Small Giant Games to the list of companies like SeriouslyGrand Cru, and Playraven who've successfully raised multi-millions before any game hits the market. To be specific, Small Giant announces they've raised $3.1 million in a round led by Stockholm-based Creandum, followed by PROfounders, Spintop Ventures, and Capital A Partners. A group of private investors also joined the round, including Gregory Milken and Risto Siilasmaa.

With no public title out yet since coming together in 2013, we last covered the company as ex-Sulake CEO Timo Soininen joined the company last year. In the funding round's press release he gives some hints about their upcoming release, Oddwings Escape, which seems to include strong characters, good graphics, and unique gameplay.

“It’s not possible to succeed in the fiercely competed mobile games market just by copying existing popular games – you need to create new and unparalleled game features and experiences, which shape the existing genres and create entirely new ones. One of our goals is to raise the quality of character animations in mobile games to a new level”, Small Giant Games CEO Timo Soininen says.

In our last coverage we wrote that the game was slated for a summer 2014 release, but having pushed that, the team is now talking about a 2015 for when their title hits the market. Small Giant is promoting a few open positions, but likely a good chunk of this war chest well go into marketing for when the game drops.

We'll stay posted!
